IOM DESIGNS
PANDA.
Decided to design a new boat based on ideas I had that incorporated in some of the past designs but also took a slightly different tack.
What has evolved is a design that I think will be something that will suit all conditions but also at its peak in A rig, which in most areas is the rig used most of the time.
Slightly fuller in the bow with rounded sections and the stern is also a bit wider.
Have included photos which hopefully convey those changes.
It's initiation was in the CCOR regatta in China last month. Soeren Andresen (Den), and myself attended along with Zyvonko Jelicich , Graham Bantock and skippers from Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore, as well as the local contingent. Unfortunately the Japanese skippers plans got skuppered by a typhoon, so they could not attend.
With our two boat in parts when I arrived, and working into the night we got Soeren's A and B rig finished and my A rig.
Both boats launched for the first race and they performed well and showed promise. This was later displayed when on the last day Soeren was the leading points scorer. He showed improvement each day. Final result was Soeren in 3rd place and myself in 7th.
The two boats were sold to local skippers after the event and should be the forerunners of a fleet of Panda's in China.
C5G
This is the glass version of the Corbie 5 (wooden construction),which has been very successful in the UK, sailing against the top glass boats currently being used.
The plug is being made and the first hull moulding is expected in the next few weeks.
The design has proved to be a great all rounder. Competitive in all conditions.
Due to efficiencies in production both the C5G and the current design ,Nitro (which finished an impressive 10th place in the just completed
2018 European IOM Championships), have been reduced in price to $2390.00 AUD for the hull package. This includes the hull, fin, bulb, rudder, and all deck fittings, ex factory.
The fin used on the 2 designs is made by Craig Smith. Probably the best IOM fin available.
NITRO
Mirage Radio Yachts is proud to announce the release of the new IOM, named Nitro.
This is a development of a previous design which has proven to be the equal to other top IOM's when sailed by equivalent skippers.
It features a new fin and rudder, and lower freeboard to allow the rig to be placed lower in the boat which aids stability.
It also features the addition of a screw lid pot to contain the receiver and battery. Because of this inclusion the winch is now in front of the mast.
Detail improvements include adjustable rudder pushrod.
The Nitro will be available in a range of 8 colours, 7 being RAL colours and the other is the Team Mirage green as shown on the Nitro in the photos.
The RAL colour codes are; Yellow 1023, Red 3020, Grey 7000, Blue 5015, Orange 2011, White 9003, and Dark blue 5017.
The hulls are being manufactured by ARS Composites to a very high standard. The fin and rudder are supplied and fitted by Mirage Radio Yachts, then the boats are dispatched. The standard foil colour is white.
Boats can be supplied as a hull package and completed to any stage right up to ready to sail.
RG65 DESIGN
Matrix
Design name is Matrix and originally had conventional rigs. Now fitted with swing rigs. The design is an all rounder but is noted for its performance in a breeze.
Will soon be available at a reduced price due to manufacturing changes.
Also now fitted with an arm winch.
The plan is to have the design available in carbon construction or in glass depending on the customers requirements..
MARBLEHEAD DESIGN
Mantra
This design will be available in the next few months with a revised construction layup. Details later.
